NSW Local Seniors Awards 2017

Cronulla RSL Memorial Club was proud to have two finalists in the NSW 2017 Seniors Awards for the Cronulla State Electorate, Janet Kent and John Kane.

John Kane was awarded the 2017 Cronulla Local Senior of the Year.

John, an ex-serviceman with the Royal Australian Navy, is involved with Sailability Cronulla, which facilitates sailing activities for people with disability. He has also been instrumental in helping to extend Sailability’s services to local high schools so that young students with special needs can enjoy fun and challenging on-water activities.

Each year, John would sponsor and attend an Australia Day yacht race at Airlie Beach in memory of his son, Danny, a sailor with disability, who was killed in a yachting accident.

Janet Kent, committee member and President of the Cronulla RSL 55 & Over Group for 16 years, was nominated for her volunteering in the community and work at the St James Church at Kurnell.

Cronulla RSL Memorial Club would like to congratulate both Janet & John on their nominations and for representing the community through hard work and dedication.
